A visit to Sallon in the Valais makes a pleasant day out. Our visit today was based on a walk (I think that it may have even qualified as a short hike by Swiss standards).
It is about a 1 hour drive from Lausanne to Saillon, although the drive back on a sunny Sunday afternoon was considerably longer because of the congested A9. We parked at Place Farinet and walked up towards the village. After a little look around, we turned towards the vineyards, following the track road that leads from the back of the Place des Ramparts.
We followed our noses, climbing up until we reach the end of a track, turning back towards the village. Our walk of around 5km took about an hour, with some time spent looking around the village.
In the village there is a café that may be worth a visit once COVID lets us in. There is an artists studio (Michel Lemaire at Atelier de Vieux-Bourg) with some rather tempting paintings on display, and a ceramics studio that we intend to return to visit.
